Weekly Digest - 23 August 2013

Minor Hurling Championship

During the week, games were played in divisions one and two of this year’s Minor Hurling Championship.

On Thursday, I tweeted the up to date league tables as I had them, i.e. from results given on the County Board’s Website. However, they do not appear to be correct, as a number of people have got onto me to tell me that games were played already but no results were given on the website.

I am at present trying to get my hands on all results so far in this year’s championship and once these results are sourced, correct tables will be put together.

Sometimes, fixtures going up on the county board website can be a little slow. This is no fault of the County Board officers. Maybe, clubs however could play their part in ensuring that their supporters at home and abroad and GAA supporters in general get to know the results of games as soon as possible after games by having someone uploading the result of games onto an official Twitter page which can be linked with a Facebook pages. Social Media is a great way to promote something, and in the main it is free so why not have clubs use it.

Camogie

It’s a big weekend for Waterford Camogie as the counties Intermediate side takes on Galway in the All-Ireland Semi Final. The game has a 2-30pm thrown in on Saturday at the Ragg in Co. Tipperary. The game has been previewed elsewhere on this blog.  With the All-Ireland Under 21 semi finals on in Thurles patrons may experience some delays on the way home as well as on the way to the game if its let to the last minute to arrive at the venue.

Ladies Football

Saturday is a big day for Ladies Football in the county as the Counties Under 16 team take on Meath in the All-Ireland ‘B’ Final at McDonagh Park in Nenagh. The game has a 3-45pm throw in and is preceded by the ‘C’ Final between Limerick and Westmeath. As with the Camogie game, supporters returning home from this game could expect some delays in Thurles due to the All-Ireland under 21 semi finals which are on at Semple Stadium on Saturday evening. The under 16 game is previewed with the Camogie game elsewhere on my blog.

County Fixtures.

The final round of games in the league section of this years county senior hurling championship are down to be played this weekend. Previews can be found elsewhere on my blog.
