All
teams taking part in this year’s Dr Harty Cup have played in the competition
after today’s round of games.
For
a number of reasons, a great deal of games in the first series of games was
postponed two weeks ago, but all nine games in the four groups went ahead
today.
It
was a day when it rained goals. In total twenty five goals were registered with
the greatest amount coming in the game between De La Salle and the Kerry
Colleges where seven were struck, six of which went to the Waterford City side.
In
group ‘A’, Saint Colman’s are top of the group after playing their second game.
They followed a first round victory over the Kerry Colleges with a draw against
Clonmel C.B.S., the game finishing at thirteen points a piece. De
La Salle were the biggest winners of the day hitting 6-21 against the Kerry
Colleges and conceding just 1-6. The third game in group one saw Ard Scoil Rís
win the all Limerick battle, beating Castletroy College 2-14 to 0-8.
The
West Limerick Colleges are top of group ‘B’. They fought out a 1-18 a piece
draw with Our Lady’s from Templemore. Stephen Bennett hit 1-10 for Blackwater
Community School in their 3-20 to 0-8 victory over Charleville CBS at Fermoy.
Abbey CBS did not have a game to play in this round of games.
In
group ‘C’, Midleton CBS are top of the pile after they won the all Cork battle
against Coláiste Chriost Rí 1-18 to 0-9 and in the second game played in this
group Thurles CBS came out on top in the all Tipperary battle, overcoming the
challenge of Nenagh CBS on a 1-16 to 0-9 scoreline.
Dungarvan
Colleges (formally Colaiste na nDeise) sit top of the pile in group ‘D’ after
they had ten points to spare over Saint Caimin’s at Tipperary. The Combined St
Augustine’s and Dungarvan C.B.S came out on top on a 3-12 to 0-11 scoreline. In
the second game played in this group it was Doon CBS who won last years Munster
‘B’ Colleges Championship that won out against Gael Colaiste Mhuire from Cork
on a 2-16 to 3-9 scoreline.
Games
in round three takes place in two weeks times and some intriguing battles lie
in store.
In
group ‘A’, Saint Colman’s and De La Salle clash in what will be the game of the
round in this group. Kerry Colleges will be hoping for their first win this
year when they take on Ard Scoil Rís and Castletroy College take on Clonmel
CBS.
In
Group ‘B’ Blackwater Community School from Lismore take on Abbey Community
School from Tipperary and Our Lady’s from Templemore take on Charleville CBS.
Midleton
CBS and Thurles CBS clash in what could well be the game of the round in group ‘C’
and Nenagh CBS will be hoping for better luck when they take on Hamilton High
School from Brandon.
Game
of the round in Group ‘D’ would appear to be the clash between Dungarvan
Colleges and Saint Flannan’s. The two side clashed at the quarter final stages
of the 2011-12 competition earlier this year and it was the West Waterford
Colleges side that emerged victors but they will be minus many of the panel on
that day when the sides meet again. The final game in this group will see Doon
CBS take on Saint Caimin’s from Shannon.
