Waterford
will begin the 2013 Ladies Football National League campaign with a home game
against beaten All-Ireland Senior Finalist Kerry on February 3.
The
two sides met in the 2012 League campaign at Castleisland on March 11 where in
what was a high scoring game the home side ran out winners by the smallest
possible margin on a 3-16 to 5-9 scoreline and on home soil, Waterford will be
hoping to reverse the outcome of the game and get their bid to move back up to
division one off to the best possible start.
Waterford’s
second game is away to Galway which could prove to be a very tough encounter.
When the two sides clashed at the Saint Mollerans club grounds in Carrickbeg in
the 2012 league, it was the visitors that came out on top winning 1-13 to 1-8.
Game
three in the league is a home game against Westmeath. The midlander’s won the
third division of the league in 2012. In the championship they played in the
senior ranks where they reached the quarter final stages but were
comprehensively beaten by Kerry.
The
first of two trips to Ulster will happen on March 3 when Cavan will provide the
opposition. When the sides met in Fraher Field in the spring of this year,
Waterford won the game 2-7 to 0-10 and their second trip north takes place on
March 24 when they travel to Fermanagh. The sides clashed at Fraher Field in
the 2012 league campaign where Waterford came out on top on a 2-9 to 2-7
scoreline and when they clashed later in the year in the All-Ireland semi
finals things were just as tight.
Waterford’s
penultimate game in the league is against Clare at a home venue for the Déise
Girls. The sides met at Doonbeg in the 2012 league campaign where the home side
ran out winners on a 0-18 to 1-8 scoreline.
Waterford’s
last game in the league is an away game against Kildare who dropped down from
division one after the 2012 league campaign where they finished the campaign
with just one point, having drawn with Meath.
Meanwhile,
the Munster Ladies Football Council has made the draws for the 2013 Jim Kennedy
Cup which proceeds the league.
Waterford
are drawn in group one along with Limerick and IT Tralee in group one, while
Mary Immaculate College from Limerick, Cork and Tipperary clash in group two.
Waterford’s
first game will take place at a date to be confirmed not later that January 13,
and by a week later they must have played IT Tralee.
The
top team in each group will contest the final which has been pencilled in to
take place on January 27.
