Glanworth outside Fermoy is the venue for
this year’s Munster Minor ‘B’ Ladies Football Final.
Waterford make the journey to the North Cork
venue on Saturday morning for a 12-30pm throw in where Waterford will be
looking to lower the colours of 2014 Munster and All-Ireland Champions
Tipperary.
Underage Ladies Football in Tipperary at this
point is at a high level.
From the side that won Munster and
All-Ireland ‘B’ titles twelve months ago, eleven of that panel are available
again this year and that experience in any underage team is invaluable.
Then factor in the fact that three South
Tipperary College’s sides contested the Munster ‘A’ and ‘B’ Ladies Football
College’s finals in Clonmel. Colaiste Mhuire from Carrick-on-Suir who included
a number of players from the Comeragh Rangers Club lost out in the ‘A’ final to
Colaiste Dun Iascaigh side from Cahir and in the ‘B’ final Loreto Secondary
School from Clonmel who included players from Ballymacarbry lost out to a
strong Saint Augustine’s College side from Abbeyside.
And there is also something else to factor
in.
Both Tipperary and Waterford played in the ‘A’
Championship as well as the ‘B’ Championship this year along with both Cork and
Kerry, and the young Premier Ladies reached the final where they took on Cork
and really put it up to them before loosing out 4-13 to 2-15 in a very exciting
game that the final outcome was in doubt right to the end.
Tipperary going into this game will have a
number of players that Waterford will have to keep and eye on.
Aoibhe O’Shea is top scorer for Tipperary
this year and is putting up impressive tallies when allowed. Aisling Moloney
also has put up a very impressive tally in her side’s games to date while the
likes of Róisín Howard, Megan Shanahan, Louise Cadell, Grainne Condon, Aoife
Corcoran, Elaine Fitzpatrick and Orla O’Dwyer will also need to have a close
eye kept on.
Waterford however will not go into this game
wanting.
Waterford will be able to pick from some very
exciting players to choose from many of whom have played for the county at
Intermediate level at league and championship level over the past two years.
These players amongst others include the
likes of Megan Dunford who was picked in the Division three National Football
League team of the year, Kate McGrath, Caoimhe McGrath, Emma, Kate and Aoife
Murray, Lauren McGregor, Kate Hahessey, Liz Devine, Lauren McGregor, Lauren
Guiry and Ciara Hurley.
Add in the likes of Rioghnach Hyland in goal,
Rebecca Casey, Caitriona O’Brien, Katie Hayes and Caragh McCarthy and it’s
clear to see that Waterford have a strong team.
Waterford will know that to beat Tipperary
will not be easy. However, Waterford under Crohan McGregor, Joe Murray and Sean
Curry will have to travel to the North Cork venue believing that they can win.
To dethrone the champions will not be easy.
Champions seldom give up a crown easily, but Waterford as can be seen above have
the players capable of grasping the title from the current champions.
