Its all systems go from here on in

With Waterford now out of all inter county championships, the attention turns to local championships and it will be all systems go over the next number of weeks in an all out effort to have club sides ready to represent the county in the Munster Club Championships which are due to start in October.

In senior football, two rounds of the senior football championship are to be played and three teams assured a place in the knockout stages of the championship at this point, the last two rounds of games are expected to be keenly contested.

Round Four games are pencilled in to take place on the weekend of August 10 to 12. On Friday evening, there is just one game to be played, when Rathgormack and Ardmore do battle in Fraher Field.

On Saturday evening, there is two double headers down to take place. In Walsh Park, Gaultier and Ballinacourty do battle in the first game and will be followed by the meeting of Saint Saviours and The Nire who strangely have to travel almost the entire length of the county for the game.

In Fraher Field on the same evening Dungarvan and Kilrossanty meet in the first game and will be followed by the clash of An Rinn and Clashmore. On Sunday evening at the same venue Brickeys and Stradbally completes the weekends action.

The fifth and final round of games in the league section of the competition takes place the following weekend where a number of games are expected to draw good attendances.

In group one, three games will take place on Saturday evening, all having a 7pm throw in. Ballinacourty and Ardmore clash in Fraher Field, The Nire and Rathgormack meet at Lemybrien and Gaultier and St Saviours do battle in Walsh Park.

Games in group two take place twenty four hours later. Stradbally and An Rinn meet in Lemybrien. Bushy Park will stage the meeting of Kilrossanty and Clashmore while the big game in this group could well be the meeting of Brickeys and Dungarvan at the Fraher Field.

The eight teams that advance to the knockout stages of the championship will have nearly a month to wait for their next game after the league section of the competition is complete. The quarter finals are provisionally pencilled in for the weekend of 22 and 23 of September.

In hurling, just one round of games are to be played in the league section and they will surly attract some good attendances as there will be some real championship games to be played out where depending on the result of the games, teams will be in or out of the championship.

Games in group one will take place on September one with games in group two taking place the following day.

In Fraher Field Ballygunner and Lismore do battle, Cappoquin sees Ballyduff Upper and Abbeyside face up to each other and at Lemybrien Passage and Dungarvan meet. All games have 6-30pm start.

On Sunday at 2-30pm, three games in Division two will be fought out. Tallow and Fourmilewater meet at Cappoquin, De La Salle and Dunhill meet at Carriganore and at Walsh Park, Mount Sion and Roanmore battle out a local derby game that could see one team advance to the knockout stages of the competition and knock the other out.

In hurling, where a club is involved in the knockout stages of both the hurling and football championship, they are expected to play their quarter final game the following weekend and clubs not involved in both the senior hurling and football championships will play the following week. The semi finals of the hurling championship are pencilled in for the weekend of September 29 and 30.
